GIMP (General Image Manipulation Program, that will later be redefined as 'GNU Image Manipulation Program') turned 20 on November 21. On that day 20 years ago, University of California student Peter Mattis (co-creator of GIMP along with Kimball Spencer) announced the availability of the software.
GIMP is open source and is available for Windows, OS X and GNU/Linux. The learning curve, however, may be a little steep for those used to other imaging editing software.
